An Early Birthday Present

I know that some of you might think I'm crazy for wanting a steam cleaner in the first place, let alone as a birthday gift, but that's me - insane.  First, I must tell you that this is our first experience with having a child and carpeting in the same house.  If any of you have ever witnessed the table manners of my daughter, you will understand that this is not a good combination.  (Needless to say, I was very grateful we didn't take the apartment with the brand new carpet.) 

Well, the growing amount of stains and dirt in our living/dining area was driving me crazy, and soon I found myself admiring every steam cleaner we happened upon.  Kevin had talked about getting us one for my birthday next week, but this weekend put us over the top, as Lily threw up on the carpet one too many times.  So, last night for our Family Home Evening, we went to Sears and got me the Hoover Steam Vac Dual V.  Just so you don't think I alone in this endeavor, Kevin had it out of the box, put together, and in use, before bedtime.

Hugs and Kisses

Lily has been such a sweetheart with Derek, at least so far.  The other day I turned around for a second, and this is what I caught her doing.  I would definitely prefer to catch her hugging and kissing him, than anything else.   She has her jealous moments, but I feel very blessed that she is such a great big sister.

All for the sake of vanity

Well, Derek is 2 months old now, and I am starting to feel the need to feel cute again.  I have been exercising and trying to eat less candy, but I needed something more.  Kevin promised I could go out and buy a bunch of new clothes, (since I have NO summer clothes - it has been six years since I bought a new pair of shorts) I want a new haircut, etc.  The "etc." is what has gotten me into trouble.  For Valentine's Day Kevin bought me a gift certificate to go tanning, because I had been complaining about how pale my skin was.  Well, I went - for the first time since Kevin and I were engaged - and I got burnt to a crisp!!!!!  I have not been sunburned in years, and now it hurts to move.  Well, all I can say is that it serves me right for being vain.

And he's our "good" baby . . .

We had Derek's pictures taken 2 weeks ago, and I was very excited.  He has been smiling so cute lately, and he is just such a low key baby compared to Lily.  I thought it would be easy.  (When we had Lily's first pictures done, the only way we could get one without her screaming, was to have her pacifier in her mouth until the last second - he he!)  Well, after 2 good pictures, he would scream every time I set him down on the table.  He would stop screaming and smile every time I picked him up.  We almost decided to drape me with a cloth to take a couple, but decided to get this picture instead.  Pretty fun, because, like I said, he is our "good" baby.

The Challenge

Well, here I am, doing what I have been wanting to do forever, but just hadn't gotten around to.  I must give credit where credit is due, however.  I probably still wouldn't have done this if it wasn't for Shannon (my sister-in-law) giving me a challenge to do so.  Also, I was spurned on by the fact that I am WAY too competitive, and she offered a prize to the first person to do it.  So here I am, learning to blog, and very excited.  It may take a little while to get everything how I want it, but please be patient during my construction phase.  It depends on how much time my kids let me play on the computer, but it's all good.
